Solid Wood Ottoman Beds

An ottoman bed should be the sturdiest frame in the house — it carries the mattress, you, and everything stored beneath, all on a gas-lift base. Heava ottomans are solid hardwood throughout, so the lift and the frame stay silent and square for decades, not months.

A solid wood ottoman bed is a gas-lift storage bed whose entire lifting base is built from real hardwood — not the upholstered fabric over MDF or steel used by almost every ottoman on the market. Heava's are 100% solid Hevea Maple, designed in Ireland, in double, king and super king.

Most ottoman beds sold in Ireland are veneered MDF or hollow steel under fabric — and the gas-lift base is exactly where cheap frames start to sag, rattle and stick. Heava ottomans are built entirely from Hevea Maple hardwood: real timber, properly jointed, that takes the extra load without developing the sway a flat-pack ottoman gets within a year.

Why a solid wood ottoman bed

Ottomans work the wood harder — wider spans, a gas-lift base, more joints under load. That's precisely why the timber matters. Hevea Maple (rubberwood) is dense, dimensionally stable and oak-comparable in strength, so a Heava ottoman stays tight and quiet where a hollow one loosens. Solid wood ottoman vs upholstered ottoman

Nearly every ottoman bed sold in Ireland is upholstered fabric over an MDF or steel frame. Here's how a solid Hevea Maple ottoman compares on the things that decide how long it lasts.

Common questions about solid wood ottoman beds

Is a Heava ottoman bed really solid wood?

Yes — 100% solid Hevea Maple hardwood, including the lifting base. No MDF, veneer, particleboard or upholstery anywhere. Almost every other ottoman bed on the market is fabric over an MDF or hollow-steel frame; a Heava ottoman is real timber throughout.

How does the gas-lift ottoman base work?

The whole slatted base pivots upward on a gas strut — like a car boot — lifting smoothly with one hand to reveal the entire footprint of under-bed storage. Lowered, it sits flush and silent. Because the frame is solid hardwood, it stays square and quiet instead of sagging or sticking.

How much storage is under an ottoman bed?

The full area beneath the mattress — enough for duvets, spare bedding, seasonal clothes and luggage. A king or super king gives the most; even the double reclaims a whole room’s worth of storage in a tight space, which is why ottomans suit box rooms and apartments.

Is a solid wood ottoman bed better than an upholstered ottoman?

For longevity, yes. An upholstered ottoman carries its gas-lift base on a hollow MDF or steel frame that tends to sag, stick and squeak within a year or two, and the fabric traps dust. Solid hardwood carries the extra load without flexing and wipes clean — you buy it once.

What sizes do the solid wood ottoman beds come in?

Double (135×190cm), King (150×200cm) and Super King (180×200cm) — the sizes where storage matters most — each in a Natural or Walnut finish.

Do you deliver and assemble ottoman beds across Ireland?

Yes — free delivery and full in-room assembly anywhere in the Republic of Ireland (typically 7–14 days), with all packaging taken away. You just add the mattress.
